Following a report by CCTV's Financial Investigation program on the evening of September 13 regarding problems with three rural sewage treatment facilities in Xiangfen County, local authorities have swiftly initiated verification and comprehensive corrective actions.
For the villages of Jiecun in Xincheng Township and Yonggu Village in Yonggu Township, where sewage treatment stations have not yet been completed, emergency measures have been activated. These include unified sewage collection and transfer for treatment from both villages. Simultaneously, construction of the treatment facilities is being accelerated to ensure they are completed and operational by the end of December.
Regarding the sewage treatment station in Dongliu Village, Nanjia Township, which was not in operation, the original plan has been adjusted. The 152 households whose pipeline networks have already been completed have been connected to the treatment station, which has now started operating normally. For the remaining 40 households that cannot be connected due to topographical constraints, a system of separate collection and harmless utilization has been implemented.
Xiangfen County will use this incident as an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive review of existing rural domestic sewage treatment facilities, establish a robust long-term operation and maintenance mechanism, and ensure that both construction and management are given equal priority for sustainable operation.
On the evening of September 13, the Financial Investigation program of China Media Group exposed issues with rural pollution treatment in certain regions. It revealed that some villages in Xiangfen County, Shanxi Province, have sewage treatment projects lacking supporting terminal treatment facilities, alongside significant environmental risks associated with pipeline networks.
