Speaking at the 2026 Fortune Global 500 Forum held in Guangzhou on September 16, Goldman Sachs' chief China economist highlighted that AI infrastructure investment is set to maintain its upward trajectory for the foreseeable future.
According to the economist, even the most conservative projections indicate that AI infrastructure spending in 2027 will surpass this year's levels. The anticipated peak is expected to arrive in 2028 or even 2029, meaning the next 12 to 18 months will witness continued acceleration rather than a slowdown, particularly in the AI infrastructure sector.
The economist emphasized that elevated oil prices, combined with geopolitical risks, are driving regions to prioritize energy self-sufficiency, defense systems, and AI infrastructure. These priorities necessitate significant capital expenditure, paving the way for a new wave of investment cycles that will carry the global economy into the coming year.
