A major construction-grade limestone mining project officially broke ground on September 10 at a ceremony held in Baiwu Town, Yanyuan County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The development, which centers on the Longtang Reservoir limestone resource, boasts total reserves of approximately 92.345 million tonnes and is designed for an annual production capacity of 2.75 million tonnes, with an operational lifespan of no less than 18 years.

In July 2026, a consortium of eight companies led by China Construction Eighth Engineering Division secured the project's engineering, procurement, construction, and operation (EPC+O) contract with a winning bid of roughly 6.794 billion yuan. The mining site covers an area of 0.5218 square kilometers in Baiwu Town, featuring open-pit extraction of limestone at elevations ranging from 2,523 meters down to 2,406 meters, with the ore meeting Class I standards for building aggregates.

The mining rights were originally acquired by Jintie Mining in January 2024 for 108 million yuan, with the company partnering with Lihong Mining for cooperative development under a guaranteed annual return of 8.475 million yuan. The EPC+O scope encompasses geological surveying, design, construction, extraction, processing, and a production operation phase extending beyond 18 years, with a construction timeline of 160 days.

Once fully operational, the project will strengthen Yanyuan County's green building materials supply chain and help meet the rigid demand for sand and gravel aggregates across infrastructure projects in western Sichuan, the Panxi region, and northwestern Yunnan.
