A province-wide skills competition for forestry and grassland workers, alongside a forest and grassland firefighting drill, was recently held in Shenyang. More than 300 forest firefighters from 14 cities took part in the competition and drill activities.
The competition featured both individual and team events. The individual events comprehensively evaluated participants' theoretical knowledge, equipment operation skills, and overall physical fitness. Team events included coordinated water pump relay tactics, wind-powered fire extinguisher cooperative tactics, and a drone patrol technology exercise introduced for the first time this year, focusing on assessing operators' practical abilities in fire reconnaissance, target positioning, image transmission, and aerial assessment. Ultimately, the Shenyang team secured first place in the team competition.
The drill was closely aligned with real-world forest and grassland firefighting needs, simulating six typical combat scenarios: fire handling in forest-agriculture interlaced zones, protection of key ecological areas, evacuation of civilians, fighting high-risk fires on steep slopes, responding to escalated crown fires, and extinguishing rekindled embers. Modern, specialized, and intelligent equipment such as drone swarms, intelligent firefighting robots, and high-capacity firefighting artillery vehicles were deployed, creating a comprehensive combat model of "aerial reconnaissance and early warning, drone precision strikes, ground assault and containment, coordinated air-ground encirclement, and intelligent patrol and clearance." This significantly enhances comprehensive response capabilities for forest and grassland fires under extreme weather and complex terrain conditions, laying a solid foundation for fire prevention efforts in the autumn and winter seasons.
