Under the autumn sun, harvesters are working at full throttle in the corn fields of Zhangli Township, Huaibin County, Xinyang City. At this critical time, the county's 78,000 mu of corn is entering its mature harvest period, while the 220,000 mu of peanuts are in a key window for yield formation. The local strategy is dual-pronged: mobilizing machinery for a rapid harvest on one front, and dispatching agricultural experts to the front lines for field management on the other, fully supporting the goal of a plentiful autumn harvest.

With corn ripening all at once, the harvest window is tight. Huaibin County is scientifically coordinating its harvesters based on field distribution and maturity levels, ensuring that plots are harvested as soon as they are ready. Machinery operator Ma Hua explains, "The machine comes right to the field; it can harvest an acre in just over ten minutes. In the past, the whole family had to pitch in. Now, one machine can handle sixty to seventy acres a day, saving time, effort, and money."

While the harvest race accelerates, field management is keeping pace. In the contiguous planting bases of the Langan Subdistrict, Huaibin County, agricultural technicians are moving between plots, carefully inspecting crop growth and checking for pests and diseases. They provide on-site guidance to growers on practical techniques like scientific fertilizer application and green pest control. "I've planted over twenty mu of corn and more than ten mu of peanuts this year. With experts guiding us right in the field, we'll ensure good management for the rest of the season and aim for a great harvest," says Chen Lianghua, a major grain grower from Zhaolou Village in the Langan Subdistrict.

Further north in Henan, the 1.2885 million mu of corn in Huaxian County, Anyang City, is generally growing well. The county is effectively integrating technical guidance with technological plant protection to proactively manage autumn grain production. "Not long ago, we seized the critical window to carry out spraying operations aimed at stress resistance, disaster prevention, and stable yield increases across the county. By scientifically mixing and applying insecticides, fungicides, and foliar fertilizers, we addressed pest control, disease prevention, premature aging, and increased grain weight," explains Zhou Weixue, a senior agronomist at the Huaxian Agriculture and Rural Bureau. The county has also deployed over 100 agricultural technicians who are assigned to specific townships, villages, and households, establishing a three-tiered linkage mechanism of "experts + technicians + growers." This pushes technical support down to the village level and delivers services directly to the fields, with technicians assessing each field individually to ensure problems are identified and solutions are provided on the spot.

In early August, areas such as Zhoukou and Luohe in Henan were hit by heavy rainfall from typhoons. In the aftermath, the province's agriculture and rural departments seized the opportunity to accelerate the recovery of agricultural production. The provincial agriculture department dispatched expert groups to guide disaster-affected regions in strengthening technical support for autumn grain field management. The strategies were clear: for completely destroyed fields, based on the season and farmers' wishes, they advised planting short-growth-period crops to minimize losses; for damaged fields, they implemented fertilization measures to minimize yield reduction; and for unaffected fields, they focused on fertilizer and water management and pest control to maximize yields. Concurrently, the provincial agriculture department, together with financial regulatory authorities, has been supervising and encouraging agricultural insurance providers to open "green channels" for streamlined claims processing, ensuring farmers receive their compensation promptly.
