At a routine press conference held on September 16, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office responded to inquiries about the impact of the Pinglu Canal's official opening to navigation on the same day. A reporter asked how the waterway would benefit Taiwan-invested enterprises operating along its route, drawing attention from industrial circles on both sides of the strait.
Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian stated that the Pinglu Canal, a key project of the western land-sea corridor in mainland China, has attracted widespread interest from cross-strait industries. Taiwan businesspeople generally believe that the canal will facilitate connections between Taiwan-invested firms and resources in western mainland cities, leveraging combined rail, river, and sea transport to significantly reduce import and export logistics costs. This creates an efficient industrial chain: raw material processing in the west, river-sea transfer through Guangxi, and sales to ASEAN markets, thereby opening fresh opportunities for Taiwan-invested enterprises to expand into Southeast Asia.
We welcome Taiwan businesspeople and enterprises to share in the advantages of the western land-sea corridor, establish deep roots in the mainland, and pursue stronger development moving forward.
