Christopher Hui, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of Hong Kong, disclosed at the Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao Economic and Trade Forum on September 15 that the corporate re-domiciliation regime has so far received approximately 80 applications since its implementation, of which 50 from companies spanning different industries have been approved.

Speaking at the event, Hui highlighted Hong Kong's status as a leading global cross-border wealth management hub, which consolidates international capital, professional expertise, and a diverse range of financial products. He noted that Hong Kong is actively refining its preferential tax regimes for funds, single-family offices, and carried interest, while also extending additional tax concessions to corporate treasury centres, all aimed at attracting more high-quality enterprises and long-term capital to establish a presence in the city.

The city is also making strides in strengthening its family office and asset owner ecosystem, as data reveals that more than 3,380 single-family offices were operating in Hong Kong by the end of last year, reflecting an increase of roughly 680 offices compared with two years earlier. Hui attributed this growth to growing international confidence in Hong Kong, as well as the resilience and appeal of the city's institutional framework.

Additionally, Hui pointed out that Hong Kong is actively advancing the development of its gold and commodity markets. The city's Central Clearing and Settlement System for Gold has entered a trial operation phase, with plans to promote physical delivery, expand investment and derivative products, enhance risk management tools, offer tax incentives, and deepen connectivity with the mainland's gold market. These efforts are designed to progressively build a more dynamic and comprehensive gold trading ecosystem in Hong Kong.
