U.S. stock futures pointed lower across all three major indices on Tuesday morning. Dow futures fell 0.27%, S&P 500 futures dropped 0.15%, and Nasdaq futures declined 0.07% in pre-market trading.

European markets showed mixed performance with Germany's DAX up 0.01%, while the UK's FTSE 100 slipped 0.33%, France's CAC 40 fell 0.27%, and the Euro Stoxx 50 dropped 0.17%. Meanwhile, WTI crude oil gained 0.92% to $102.32 per barrel, with Brent crude rising 0.24% to $105.93.

The 10-year Treasury yield surged past 5% for the first time in nearly two decades, reaching 5.007% and touching an intraday high of 5.047%. The 30-year yield climbed to 5.373%, briefly hitting 5.400%. This bond market pressure has intensified tensions ahead of Wednesday's Federal Reserve rate decision, with investors anticipating the first increase in short-term borrowing costs since July 2023. If the Fed holds rates steady or signals less aggressive tightening than markets currently price, bond investors could demand even higher yields to compensate for inflation risk.

BMO Capital Markets strategist Will Hartman noted that the Fed risks damaging its inflation-fighting credibility if it keeps rates unchanged this week. The market remains vulnerable not only to a surprise pause but also to a dovish rate hike, where the dot plot or press conference conveys more patient signals. PGIM Credit Chief Global Economist Dalip Singh added that the more the Fed demonstrates its anti-inflation credibility, the more likely it can compress risk premiums at the long end of the Treasury curve in the medium term.

Wall Street is shifting focus to potential beneficiaries beyond chip stocks as the AI safety debate reshapes trading strategies. Investors are recalibrating scenarios where slower AI model training could cool computing demand, while identity management, data governance, and cyber defense enter larger spending cycles. Evercore ISI analyst Kirk Materne believes AI agents must be protected, governed, and monitored regardless of how quickly they enter enterprises, sustaining structural demand for cybersecurity and certain infrastructure software even if AI training decelerates.

Jefferies analyst Joseph Gallo predicts the agentic AI security market remains in early stages, with initial business signals emerging in late 2026 and meaningful revenue contributions more likely after 2027. He sees identity security vendors as potential early beneficiaries, as enterprises must control machine identities, access permissions, and data call ranges when deploying AI agents.

Bank of America technical strategists maintain a bullish long-term outlook for the S&P 500, targeting moves above 8,000 points despite recent market and macro headwinds. After breaking through a weekly bull flag pattern in early August, the benchmark index has already reached the firm's one-year target of 7,741 points. Technical strategist Paul Ciana noted that as long as the index holds the 7,500 key support level, the broader uptrend remains intact. Recent price consolidation is forming a potential bullish flag pattern on the daily chart, with confirmation requiring a decisive close above the 7,760-7,770 resistance zone. A successful breakout would reopen upside targets at 8,000 and 8,234 points, with the long-term projection reaching 8,541. Ciana warned that failing to hold the 7,504-7,500 support zone would mark a significant technical breakdown, potentially triggering an initial pullback toward 7,314-7,294, with deeper correction risks toward the rising 200-day moving average around 7,200 and potentially down to the 7,000 key breakout area.

Macro Risk Advisors suggests the Fed's anticipated rate hike could trigger an S&P 500 correction as shrinking corporate margins pressure earnings outlooks while markets prepare for a tightening cycle. Founder and CEO Dean Curnutt expects the market to face greater pressure if Wednesday brings a rate increase, predicting an 8-10% pullback in the S&P 500 with potential for a second decline in December. Rate hikes would squeeze margins for companies unable to pass through costs while delivering a volatility shock to a market unprepared for such moves. Curnutt draws parallels to 2018, when the S&P 500 peaked in September before tumbling 10% across October and November, followed by further declines in December that brought the index nearly 20% below its peak, with no Christmas rally that year.

Copper prices have retreated significantly from last week's historic highs as traders had shifted supply toward the U.S. ahead of anticipated tariffs on refined copper, creating shortages elsewhere globally. However, no tariff measures have been implemented so far. LME copper futures currently trade at $14,030 per metric ton. Monday saw the largest copper delivery to London Metal Exchange warehouses in nearly four weeks. Three-month copper moved to a $85.75 per ton premium over spot, creating a contango structure that typically signals ample supply.

Tesla and SpaceX shares edged higher in Tuesday pre-market trading after CEO Elon Musk declined to rule out a merger between the two companies, reigniting speculation that has spread from retail investors to Wall Street. When asked during an All-In summit why Tesla and SpaceX remain independent despite their growing relationship, Musk called it a "good question" and hinted that the connection might eventually prompt action. He stated that with all the collaboration happening across so many levels, one could imagine what actions might be taken given the close cooperation in so many areas.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan has pushed back against concerns about potential slowdowns in frontier AI model development, reaffirming the company's long-term revenue targets. Following Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's public opposition to the "AI brakes" argument, Tan similarly downplayed worries about how AI development deceleration might affect the chipmaker's business. Huang clarified during Monday's All-In summit that AI predictions of world destruction lack scientific basis. Earlier, he made pointed remarks that panic around AI safety might simply be creating business opportunities for the cybersecurity industry, questioning what better way to create demand than by manufacturing a problem.

A Taiwan labor union representing Micron Technology employees warned Tuesday of a potential strike unless the American memory chipmaker agrees to establish a permanent profit-sharing system, escalating labor disputes at its largest manufacturing hub. The union seeks a long-term, transparent, and verifiable profit-sharing arrangement rather than one-time bonuses, reiterating demands to distribute 15% of Micron's operating profit to global employees. Taiwan serves as a critical production center for Micron's DRAM and high-bandwidth memory chips essential to AI servers. Although no strike has been announced and production remains unaffected, any labor action could intensify supply concerns in an already tight memory chip market.

Circle, Coinbase, and other cryptocurrency stocks declined in pre-market trading Tuesday as the U.S. Senate prepared for a key procedural vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Circle and Coinbase fell nearly 5%, while Strategy dropped close to 4%. The vote scheduled for 2:15 PM Eastern Time requires at least 60 votes to advance, with Republicans holding 53 seats, meaning the outcome depends on Democratic support. Crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett reported Monday that a group of Senate Democrats would meet that evening to discuss a counter-proposal.

Rocket Lab expects its proposed acquisition of Iridium Communications to double the company's size "overnight," with broader expansion plans underway as the space company prepares to use this deal as a springboard into orbital applications and constellation businesses. CFO Adam Spice stated during World Space Business Week that Iridium would fill the missing piece in the company's transformation from launch service provider to fully integrated space operator. Rocket Lab's healthy market capitalization enabled the acquisition of a company nearly its own size, and continued execution of corporate strategy should allow ongoing financing for internal investments and future transactions. Rocket Lab shares rose over 2% in Tuesday pre-market trading.
