Chuck Schumer convened the Senate Democratic core group to discuss the fate of the CLARITY Act
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has convened a meeting of the Senate Democratic leadership group on Sunday evening to discuss the newly leaked text of the CLARITY Act from Thursday by Republican senators. The text includes over 100 amendments reportedly proposed by Democrats.
The Senate will vote on Tuesday on whether to proceed with ending debate on the bill or to abandon advancing it altogether. There remains division within the Democratic Party over ethical provisions, and community banks oppose the stablecoin yield-related regulations; most Democratic senators are expected to vote against the bill. President Donald Trump discussed new wording for the ethical provisions with advisors on Friday, under which Democrats demand public officials sell their existing crypto assets.
If all 53 Republican senators support the bill, at least seven Democratic senators would need to agree to enter discussion on Tuesday; some Republican senators also oppose the current stablecoin yield provisions.
