X-Energy (XE) and Centrica said Tuesday that UK regulators accepted X-Energy's Xe-100 small modular reactor into the generic design assessment process.
The technical, safety, and environmental evaluation is expected to span roughly three years, the companies said.
The joint venture aims to construct up to 6 gigawatts of new nuclear capacity in 10 to 20 British power stations, X-Energy said.
