Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. announced Wednesday that it had entered into a capital and business alliance agreement with Preferred Networks Inc., a Japanese AI development company. It will invest 10 billion yen in the company.

The two companies will begin full-scale joint development of domestically produced AI technology for use in the fields of national security and public infrastructure.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries handles many products critical to national security, such as defense equipment and aircraft parts, and there is demand for domestically developed AI technology to be incorporated into these items. For this reason, the company decided to deepen its collaboration with Preferred Networks, which has a proven track record in the AI field.

The two companies had already entered into a business alliance agreement in June to jointly develop AI to be introduced in such products as equipment used in the national security sector.
